Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12th, 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, (currently Onesti(born November 12, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, now One Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast in history to get a flawless score of 10 points in an Olympic event. Bela Karolyi later Romanian Gymnastics Coach discovered Comaneci at just seven years old. In 1969, she took part at the Romanian Junior Championships and placed 13th. In 1970, she won the title. Three gold medals were awarded in her first competition at a pre-Olympic junior meet in 1972 that was held by communist-friendly countries. In 1973 and 1974, she became the all-around junior champion. At her first competition as a senior in 1975 she beat the Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva who was a five-time European champion winning four gold medals and one silver. In 1976, she was the first female to do a reverse double salo on the parallel bar that was uneven as part of her dismount. She took home the trophy of the American Cup, held in New York City. When she was in her teens she was performing on travel shows like Ice Capades as a skater along with her younger sibling Nina Wayne. Carol Marie Wayne was born on the 6th of September 1942 in Chicago Illinois US. Carol began her professional career as an entertainer during her teenage years. She began her career as figure skater performing with her sister Nina Wayne as part of the touring entertainment show known as Ice Capades. The shows featured ice skating performances that were accompanied by theatrical music.
